European Collaboration to Develop Inclusive Frameworks for the Music Industry
NIMPE (Network for the Internationalization of Music Producers in Europe) was an EU-funded project under Creative Europe that worked to strengthen the internationalization of live music across Europe. With a special focus on young and emerging music producers, the project aimed to improve their understanding of the European market and promote international activities.
Led by the Italian organization Assomusica, Swinging Europe collaborated with partners from Greece, the United Kingdom, Slovenia, and France. The project addressed key challenges in the cultural sector, such as a lack of knowledge about foreign markets, limited networks, and insufficient marketing skills within the live music sector. To tackle these challenges, NIMPE developed a workbook – an online database and printed resource designed to equip music producers with the necessary tools for international success.
Swinging Europe’s Role and Project Milestones
Swinging Europe contributed to the project’s research efforts by gathering information about the Danish market for the database and actively participated in the development of strategies and tools aimed at venues and music producers.
The project was launched with a meeting in Volos, Greece, in February 2017, where partners established strategies and milestones. Here, Swinging Europe participated in discussions on internationalization and shared experiences from the Danish music scene.
In October 2017, the development work continued during a meeting in Slovenia, where the focus was on experience exchange and planning future initiatives.
In April 2018, Swinging Europe hosted the NIMPE partner meeting in Denmark and contributed to strengthening collaboration between the six partner countries.
NIMPE Factory and Linecheck Festival
The project culminated with NIMPE Factory, which took place during the Linecheck Music Festival in Milan in November 2018. Here, Danish music producers and artists were brought together with industry professionals from across Europe to network and strengthen their international presence. The festival combined concerts, showcases, panel discussions, and workshops, providing a platform for broad idea exchange and collaboration.
Three Danish acts – Elba, Schwarze Fiktion, and RELATIIV – were showcased at NIMPE Factory. Their performances were documented in a film, which also included interviews and reflections on the project’s impact on the Danish music scene.
The project concluded in 2019, leaving a strong foundation for future internationalization in the music industry. Through workshops, knowledge sharing, and networking activities, NIMPE demonstrated how European collaboration can enhance young music producers’ and artists’ access to broader markets.
