European Jazz Orchestra was the largest international jazz big band project of its kind.

Every year up until 2013, DSI Swinging Europe have put together a European jazz big band tour under the name of European Jazz Orchestra or EJO. Each year a new conductor, new compositions and a new line-up of handpicked musicians, aged 18-30 – headhunted by the partner organization, the European Broadcasting Union ( EBU) Jazz Producers Group – went on new adventures, following new itineraries. Since the start of the EJO in 1998, around 300 European musicians have participated and over 200 concerts have been arranged in 35 countries in Europe, North and South America and in Asia.

European Jazz Orchestra, with 19 musicians from its 2013 line up, was requested and reunited in May 2014 in Ankara where they gave a concert at the annual Europe Day.

Ann-Sofi Söderqvist

The Swedish musician and composer Ann-Sofi Söderqvist creates music with a very strong identity. She has worked with jazz, symphonic music, pieces for choir, theatre and music for smaller ensembles and big bands.

Her material is known for its intensity and large emotional range and Ann-Sofi Söderqvist has proved herself to be a name with both audiences and professional critics.
As a trumpet player she has worked with the most beloved artists in Sweden. The same is to be said about her work as an arranger.
All through her carrier she has crossed genres both back and forth and today she benefits from this when working with her own orchestra: ASJO – Ann-Sofi Söderqvist Jazz Orchestra.
In 2013 Ann-Sofi Söderqvist composes for European Jazz Orchestra, and she will be conducting the musicians when they go on tour and bring original music out to the European venues.
Ann-Sofi Söderqvist is awarded both as a musician and as a composer. She teaches composition, music arranging and ensemble leadership skills at the Royal College of Music in Stockholm. She is also the artistic director for Jazzverk, an international composer’s competition.

Ann-Sofi Söderqvist is the first female composer for European Jazz Orchestra.
